My name is DiVitto Kelly. My wife Andrea and I are papier mache artists and instructors. We create colorful sculptures, ranging from realistic dogs and cats to supersized 6-foot Pop-Tarts®. We also teach fun, interactive papier mache classes for people of all ages.
Our sculptures, big or small, are lightweight and quite durable. We use a papier mache mix that when completely dry, is solid and long-lasting. We also enjoy making sculptures by using high-quality Styrofoam as a base. We apply layers of colored tissue paper with a glue/water mix to create a vivid collage. What I particularly enjoy about this type of art is that we can create something large, yet extremely lightweight. For example, we can make an 8-foot shark that weighs less than five pounds. The best part is you can hang the sculpture like a painting using Velcro, hooks, or small nails.
Recent projects: We just wrapped up a distinctively cool Doctor Who-themed craft program July 15 at the Captiva Memorial Library in beautiful Captiva, Florida. I precut Dalek and Tardis shapes, and included a 1950's style rocket for younger children. It was fun seeing so many Whovians (young and old) attending the program. Thanks again Naomi!
With 16 years of experience, Andrea and I teach various types of papier mache art at educational facilities such as libraries, schools, aquariums, and nature centers all over Florida. Past workshops include: Miami Seaquarium, Mote Marine Laboratory, Key West Library, Key Biscayne Library, and the Broward County Library Reading Festival.
Andrea made a Cheshire cat for a client and created animal masks for a school play in Miami. The project for the Humane Society of Greater Miami was a challenge, making over 50 dogs and cats! The sculptures were displayed at the Aventura Mall with lots of press too! The big fundraising event was a huge success. We made a 6-foot popsicle for a client in Maryland. Another fun project was the 6-foot tiger for the World Wildlife Fund. At first, the sculpture was heading to Qatar, but deemed too costly. It was eventually sent to Washington, D.C. For the immensely popular Taste of Chicago Food Festival, we made a pair of 5-foot turkey legs. We love a challenge!
Our Florida panther is a joy to look at. DiVitto brought to life an animal my husband and I adore. DiVitto is a terrific artist!"
DiVitto Kelly creates very cool, custom sculptures to compliment any décor or occasion. I’ve been working with DiVitto for more than six years and appreciate his creativity—both realistic and whimsical. I especially like the fact that each piece in one-of-a-kind, just like the artist!
